The 10th Information Accessibility Forum Convened in Beijing

On October 30, the 10th Information Accessibility Forum was convened in Beijing, jointly hosted by Internet Society of China (ISC), and China Foundation for Disabled Persons (CFDP). The event was with the guidance of UNESCO.

Taking “Intelligent life—new technology promoting information accessibility” as the theme, this forum included three sub theme forums—“intelligent life”, “aids and education” and “standard and promotion”. By conducting thorough exploration and research on information accessibility in new intelligent life era, the forum is an exchange platform for government, companies and relevant communities to effectively promote information accessibility in China.

Mr. LU Wei, the Secretary-general of ISC, pointed out that “Government  Website Accessibility Initiative” has gained great achievements since launched by ISC in last year. By August, around 300 government departments’ websites and mainstream media completed the information accessibility construction and over 20,000 Internet sites provided basic accessibility services. All of these contributed to build sound public service environment, which greatly promoted government affairs accessibility and improved public information service capacity.

Mr. LV Shiming, the Vice-Chairperson of China Disabled Persons’ Federation, said that the promotion of information accessibility is not only the channel to protect the rights and interests of the disabled, but also the significant remark of human care in the modern society and the social civilization and progress.

Mr. TANG Xiaoquan, the President of CFDP, pointed out that CFDP will continue strengthening the cooperation with the relevant ministries and commissions, enterprises and research institutions, promoting information accessibility towards deeper and broader scope.

The previous sessions focused on the latest achievements, pilot and standard construction in China and how to apply information accessibility technology and product in a better way, which greatly promoted the application of information accessibility in all walks of life, helped the disabled get across the information gap and conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges in sharing information civilization.
