China to foster Internet development in four areas----2011 China Internet Conference

Hosted by Internet Society of China (ISC), the 2011 China Internet Conference (CIC) was held from August 23-25, 2011 in Beijing, China.
The President of ISC, Madam HU Qiheng, made an opening remark at the opening ceremony of CIC. She said that the China's 12th Five-Year Plan has showed the direction of Internet development in China, which will bring to new development chance. With the CIC theme "Connecting China - Responsibility and Vitality", we not only hope to review the Internet development history, but also conclude the rule and experience of how Internet promotes the social progress and economic growth in last decade in China. Moreover, we would like to discuss at the 2011 CIC that the Internet community shall undertake the responsibility and obligation while building a sound and sustainable development market environment.

The year 2011 is the 10th anniversary of ISC as well as the 10th session of CIC events. ISC would like to express the sincere gratitude to all for the support and help.

BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- China, which has the world's largest Internet user population, plans to boost the development of its Internet sector in four areas and make it an impetus in transforming economic growth mode and in optimizing industrial structure, a senior official said Tuesday.

The four areas are promoting Internet infrastructure construction, encouraging technology progress and application, accelerating Internet application in other industries, as well as intensifying information and Internet security management, said Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), at the 2011 China Internet Conference.

The conference, with a theme of "Connecting China - Responsibility and Vitality," is scheduled to run from Tuesday to Thursday in Beijing.

Miao said the country aims to build a safe and reliable network infrastructure based on the development of various technologies, including broadband and IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6).

He said efforts will also go to developing the next generation Internet, the Internet of Things and cloud computing.

According to MIIT statistics, at the end of June, China had 485 million Internet users, with the penetration rate standing at 36.2 percent.
